Series: "Subway-people"
To many people, „to be underground“ means the end of their lifetime. But for some it has a different meaning. Suddenly – there is a light at the end of the tunnel, the light becomes bigger and bigger, flies out of the tunnel and suddenly stops to let you in. “To be underground” can also mean the beginning of a journey. For many people this journey is a very usual one, they go on it every day, traveling by subway. Beneath hundreds of meters of cold ground, within constructions of concrete and metal, there is human warmth to be found. Completely different people travel in the same wagons of the subway. Each of them has his own unique story. The subway-trains travel with very high speed, but it seems that nothing happens inside the wagons. Time seems to stand still. Exposed to terrible noise, we experience minutes of total silence. We can feel our loneliness, dive into our dreams and forget about our underground journey and its destination. These minutes are like a breath of the fresh air.Citizens of big cities spent almost a third of their life underground. The subway has become a living space for humans. The idea of my photo series is to visualize how the human organism adapts to the mechanical elements of the subway. This paradoxical connection between man and mechanism has turned out to be almost natural.
